Learn, Share, Grow

This is the mantra we’ve adopted for the new Literacy Teachers’ Academy (LTA) and embodies the philosophy the Academy will nourish.  Our aim is to support all members with a vast and continually growing collection of resources and professional learning sessions to support the evolving needs of teachers and to foster a friendly and supportive environment where teachers can share their expertise with others and grow their professional capacity.

Supporting growth in the education community

LTA will offer free membership to university based education students and all first year teachers. The support of young teachers will be a strong focus of the LTA and we encourage all experienced members to support and nurture younger members through advice and guidance in the community forum.

Content types

LTA members will benefit from access to a variety of resources including:

  • live Q&A webinars (archived for future reference)
  • live topic based webinars (archived for future reference)
  • regular access to us via video conferencing to ask questions or seek quick advice.
  • community forum – the place to ask and answer questions or discuss the problems you encounter with teaching effectively. Moderated to always be supportive and respectful
  • Member share archive – your opportunity to share and support the education community with best practice lessons, ideas, books, or other resources, so others can benefit from your ideas.
  • courses, video training, staff video PD – quality professional learning resources to support ongoing learning in your school at a fraction of the cost of adhoc access to one-off workshops or courses.
  • resource library to support teaching reading, writing and oral language. Hundreds of lessons, lesson guides and supporting materials, all developed with the highest quality pedagogy in mind.
  • video library on a range of literacy specific topics to address the challenges teachers face daily to meet the needs of a variety of students and settings.

The LTA Manifesto

The Academy Community is not a purely transactional place. We love it when members welcome newcomers, follow each others’ progress journeys, celebrate each others’ successes and have a chat about something they’ve seen or read recently! Use this space as a place to connect with your fellow literacy teachers.

LTA is a space for constructive, supportive feedback and therefore it is positive and judgement-free. Everyone is at different stages and something that seems obvious to you might be completely new to someone else. Members communication should be encouraging and practical.

At the end of the day, Literacy Teachers’ Academy is a space for kind, considerate, constructive cheerleaders. A place to Learn, Share, Grow!

More information

Next week we’ll provide details about an upcoming free professional learning webinar for all literacy educators.  This will also be an opportunity to ask us questions about the Literacy Teachers’ Academy to determine if it’s a good fit for your school.
