Exciting news!
We’re putting the final touches on a new venture created specifically to meet the challenges of teaching reading and writing in schools.

If you or your school are looking at a more comprehensive and efficient model to continue to learn and grow your teaching expertise, then things are about to get a lot easier. The brand new Literacy Teachers’s Academy (LTA) is launching in mid-July and will cater specifically for primary teachers to access professional learning based on the latest research. Additionally, members of the LTA will have access to live training, member driven Q & A sessions, expert advice and support to nurture their continued development. On top of this, a huge and continually growing library of quality resources to support learning is provided.

What inspired us to build this community?

We understand the ongoing need for affordable and comprehensive literacy PD, the need to provide support for new staff members and the value of accessing training in multiple formats that meet the limited time and cost available to schools.

We understand:

  • the need for individual and whole staff literacy training
  • periodic, one-off professional learning has a limited impact on outcomes
  • the importance of maintaining a high level of professional dialogue to sustaining focus and continuing growth
  • learnings not actioned within the first few weeks after professional development are unlikely to be actioned at all
  • the most effective teachers of literacy maintain an active interest in what’s new, what works and how to continue to improve

It’s a membership for teachers of students aged 5 to 12!

And it’s packed with in-depth, practical training and resources on all aspects of planning and delivering high quality reading, writing, and spelling instruction to students. LTA will also provide the community support teachers need to reach their full potential.

Tap into the collective knowledge and experience of a community of passionate literacy teachers and experts who support each other.

Library of professional learning videos

Our Principal Consultant, Angela Ehmer delivers video presentations for educators to take your teaching of literacy to a new level. Our videos cater for teachers aiming to enhance their skills and improve the learning outcomes for their students.

Regardless of your location or access to professional learning, our videos will provide you with the highest quality literacy learning.

Library of resources

The LTA provides quality teaching resources to accelerate the acquisition of language and literacy. Our library includes over 400 resources containing more than 700 documents.

We’re in constant development of even more resources based on the expressed needs of our members. And our members are here to help too, by sharing LTA endorsed quality resources with the community.

Staff meeting video PD

Have a desire to get consistency across your school on key deliverables? Our ‘Staff meeting video PDs’ are just the answer. Specially developed to watch as a group during staff meetings, these sessions will ensure you’re all on the same page.

Immediate access to our full training archive

We have a huge library of content for you to dive straight into as soon as you join, from full courses on topics ranging from Literature Circles to Guided Reading, to quick win Q & As on a range of topics. Then there’s expert workshops that deep dive into specific areas.

Learn what you need, when you need to, from wherever you want.

Teaching prompts & independent learning tasks

We provide all the resources we can to help you implement what you learn and make managing student learning as easy as possible. This includes:

  • Writing prompts and discussion guides for creative, informative, and persuasive writing.
  • Comprehension prompts and discussion guides to promote predicting, connecting, inferring, determining relevance to main ideas, visualising, synthesising.
  • Oral language prompts and discussion guides to build vocabulary, grammar knowledge and content knowledge for beginning readers and writers, second language learners and struggling students.
  • Independent learning tasks linked to the reading of texts and which support students to transfer and generalise their learnings from topic to topic and text to text.
  • Blackline masters to support student application and mastery rather than ‘busy work’!

Plus, a lot more inside our resource library.

Who the Academy is for

  • Highly motivated teachers of Foundation to Year 6 who wish to continually improve their teaching skills in a supportive and safe learning environment.
  • School administrators who wish to provide their teaching staff with high quality and comprehensive learning and support in literacy without breaking the PD budget.
  • Teachers and schools who recognise they are on a learning journey and want to take that journey with like-minded, motivated colleagues.
  • Action takers who aren’t just going to watch some training videos and never implement. We provide the training and resources, but you still need to do the work!
  • Communicators and networkers who wish to share their knowledge and experiences and like to pick the brains of others.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be providing more details about LTA, how you can trial it for free and the many benefits of this great value membership, for you or for your whole school.
